About this role:

We’re looking for a highly organised and reliable volunteer who can support our Managing Editor, helping our team craft powerful stories across social media, our website, and newsletter. This role is designed to offer a fantastic long-term opportunity for someone pursuing a career in publishing. The Marketing Assistant will handle digital marketing responsibilities, from copy-writing and post design, to outreach research on new ways to grow our online presence on social media, the website, and our monthly newsletter. At the same time, the role can grow in scope depending on the volunteer’s interests, with opportunities to contribute to projects such as: the IHRAM Writing Workshop, Book Review Outreach, and assisting with publishing-related tasks.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a career in publishing, whether that’s a publishing or creative writing student seeking practical experience alongside their studies, or someone already working remotely. We are particularly interested in volunteers who can commit to 1-2 years, gaining a meaningful, long-term role to strengthen their CV while developing skills that will directly support a future in publishing.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop ideas, create posts, and help manage our social-media accounts, including copy-writing and proofreading.

  • Help build an online community by connecting with writers, readers, artists, and new audiences. 

  • Find creative ways to share our values and mission in a way that matters.

  • Liaising with our authors and artists, as well as working directly with our Author Interview series.

  • Research new opportunities, ideas, or collaborations, such as Call for Submission outreach, fun interactive campaigns, etc.

  • Lead on our Monthly Newsletter, keeping information up-to-date and brainstorming new & important content ideas.

  • Maintain and organise, our Marketing Calendar, and any other relevant files to keep details streamlined.

  • Work with our Blog on Squarespace to create engaging blog posts.

Experience/requirements:

  • Some experience working with different social-media platforms or digital marketing is necessary. 

  • Must have an eye for design and worked with Canva before. 

  • Experience with simple website management is a bonus.

  • Reliability above all else: someone who consistently shows up, follows through, and checks in.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing tasks.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Independent, proactive, and able to solve problems as they arise.

  • Interest in publishing, writing, or the charity sector.

  • Ideal background: student in publishing/creative writing OR freelance marketer looking for long-term experience with a charity press.
