“Tom Block Interview about the Celebration of Black Men” at the Davenport Theater, 354 W 45th St, New York, NY with Dr. Bob Lee.

The "Celebration of Black Men" was a one-night program designed to celebrate Black men - their creativity, passion and wisdom, as part of a series of interim events held by the International Human Rights Art Movement.

IHRAM Beginnings…

Tom Block began his art-activist career as a painter, using his work to raise awareness of human rights, social justice and the people who raised their faith in the highest human values above their personal safety. This short film documents some of Tom’s work before he created the IHRAM. Produced for the Docs In Progress Documentary Production Class (2009), this film by Violeta Balan, Lisa Wilson, and David Wade profiles Silver Spring-based artist and human rights activist Tom Block.

Friends of the Homeless on Christmas

Receeding even deeper into the past, Tom founded and ran Friends of the Homeless (FOTHOC) from 1995-2010. He developed and implemented this project to give away gift bags to 100 homeless people in Washington DC every Christmas. He involved children and families from the neighborhood to pack and distribute the bags.
